Group Description

This group is designed for teens with an OCD diagnosis looking to better understand their symptoms, how to challenge OCD, and engage in exposures related to their specific type of OCD. This group is a great way for teens to take steps towards living a life guided by their values rather than fears and to be around other teens that may share similar experiences. Using evidence-based approaches including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), teens will learn how to change their relationship with intrusive thoughts, reduce compulsive behaviors, and increase their ability to tolerate uncertainty and discomfort.

The group will provide a supportive space for teens to connect with others who understand the challenges of OCD. Through shared experiences, guided discussions, experiential activities, and exposure practice, participants will create a personalized toolbox of skills that they can continue using long after the group ends.

Group Objectives:

  • Increase understanding of OCD and recognize the OCD cycle
  • Create a personalized hierarchy
  • Practice ERP principles by completing in-session exposures
  • Increase tolerance of uncertainty by utilizing non-engagement responses for intrusive thoughts
  • Demonstrate cognitive defusion skills by identifying intrusive thoughts as thoughts not facts
  • Identify personal values
  • Develop an OCD toolbox that includes coping skills, grounding techniques, and a homemade fidget toy
  • Increase confidence in managing OCD symptoms

This group is not about getting rid of thoughts or making OCD disappear - it is about learning how to respond differently to OCD so that teens can spend less time following OCD’s rules and more time doing what matters to them.

OCD Group is led by:
Katie Jernigan, LAC
She is an OCD therapist, who has experience working as a residential counselor at the OCD Institute of Texas. Her goal is to help clients break free from OCD’s rules, build confidence in managing uncertainty, and reconnect with what matters most to them

Marisa Edmonston, LAC
She is an LAC dedicated to helping teens and young adults learn to respond differently to OCD and anxiety. She believes in fostering self-compassion, resilience, and confidence through evidence-based treatments, specifically Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while developing meaningful connection.
