Group Description

In a culture where tremendous value is often placed on cognitive ability and behaviors, the seemingly abstract world of emotional intelligence feels murky and mysterious to many. Research has shown that most people can only identify three emotions - happiness, sadness, and anger. This group aims to demystify emotions and equip you with language and skills to improve your emotional wellbeing.

"Atlas of the Heart" by Brene Brown is a beautiful guide to expanding emotional literacy through a deeper look at how we can use language to better understand and express the nuances we feel and the needs connected to our feelings. This book explores definitions and relatable examples for understanding dozens of nuanced emotional experiences.

This group will use language and examples from this book to guide interactive discussion and practice with feeling, expressing, and processing nuanced emotions.

Objectives of this group include:

  • Expand your knowledge and language around feelings and emotions
  • Learn and practice resources to support increased capacity for regulating and expressing emotions
  • Learn and practice how to effectively communicate about emotional experiences in real time with others
  • Gain connection and understanding from other group members through discussing similarities and differences in how each individual relates to their own emotions

Reading the book is encouraged, but not required for participation in the group.

*Book can be purchased on Amazon or through other book retailers.

This group is facilitated by trauma therapist, Lauren Mokarry, LPC, and will be led from a trauma-informed perspective.
