My name is Maria Martin, and I am a Licensed Associate Counselor in the state of Arizona. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology with minors in Psychology, Sociology, and Social Sciences in Forensics from Northern Arizona University. Throughout my multiple years in the mental health field I have gained experience across multiple levels of care, various ages, and with many disorders.
I currently specialize in working with adults, men and women struggling to navigate adulthood and life’s challenges. Many times individuals were never taught how to talk about what they feel, only how to push through it, fix it, or ignore it. But over time, that disconnect can show up as stress, anger, anxiety, disconnection in relationships, or a sense that something’s “off” but hard to name. My work focuses on helping individuals understand and express their emotions in a way that feels real, grounded, and authentic, not forced or “therapy-speak.” In our sessions, we’ll work together to uncover what’s really going on underneath the surface, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be getting in your way, and build practical tools to navigate life with more clarity, confidence, and connection.
I take a straight forward, supportive, and no-judgment approach. My goal isn’t to change who you are, but to help you better understand yourself so you can show up more fully, at work, in relationships, and in your own life. This approach is client-centered and holistic, emphasizing that one’s well-being must be considered including physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health along with mental health needs. Utilizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity, to help tailor therapy to each individuals needs and encouraging growth, self-awareness, and resilience. In working with clients I see it as a collaboration, providing individuals with the space to process their experiences, exploring their thoughts and feelings at their own pace while providing support and guidance through a variety of tools and methods. By utilizing skills from a variety of treatment methods including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, angry, disconnected, or unsure how to express what’s going on inside, therapy can be a space to start making sense of it. You don’t have to figure it out alone.
Let’s start by having a real conversation.
